Becoming An ASP Developer
ASP (Active Server Page) is a server side script engine powered by Microsoft, it is used by programmers who develop websites that are dynamically created. Most ASP pages are coded in the same program (Visual Basic Scripting Edition) although ASP has since been replaced by ASP.NET. There is still a demand for ASP developers to maintain older code sites.
First developed in the nineteen nineties ASP is a web application that enables a site to be put onto a server. The main difference between ASP and other web server applications is that it has a very good performance record compared to other similar applications.
Developers that use classic ASP Software tend to be working on very large pre-existing sites as part of a wider team. Usually there are six basic built in applications, ASP error, application, server, response, session and request. You will be working as part of a team alongside a database administrator, designer and project manager. Programmers often work around forty hours a week but at times where a deadline is imminent they often work many more hours.
Usually ASP developers have advanced skills in markup languages, Hyper Text, html, javascript and structured query language. If you make sure you have skills in as many of these areas as possible you will make yourself much more attractive to potential employers.
When it comes to improving and progressing, ASP developers should aim to expand your knowledge in all sorts of developer tools and techniques. Developing your C# knowledge is certainly a good idea, the more programming experience you gain the better.
ASP is an area where developers are always needed so it is worth continuing working in the ASP field even though it is not as popular now ASP.NET has been rolled out. The salary for ASP developers is highly competitive and is set to increase as more and more people decide to move into ASP.NET.
