Your download will contain three different files needed to flash your phone's firmware. The setup file is mcu, and will have 'mcusw' at the end for most phone models. The language file is ppm, and has a letter at the end. The contents package file is cnt, and usually has 'nai', 'ucp', or 'image' as part of the filename. This package is where wallpapers, games, logos, and other accessories are found.

The easiest way to upgrade the firmware on your phone is to use the settings that are part of the ini file. This method causes all required flash files to be automatically located. Generally, these files are small, which means you don't have to wait unreasonable lengths of time just to get your firmware download, and you don't have to waste internet bandwidth.

One method you can use to flash your cell phone is with a flasher box. You can get many different types; UFS Micro Box (HWK), ATF, JAF or Universal are some common ones. If, for any reason, you restore your phone by hard reset, it will be set back to its original factory settings. This process will delete all user data and apps that were installed, so make sure you absolutely need to take this step before you do it. Once reset, all saved contacts and phone numbers will be deleted and you will have to enter them all in again.

Before flashing, make sure that you have backed up all your phone data, such as ring tones, contacts, images and music, as it may get deleted. Always upgrade with the same or a later version of firmware while flashing BB5 cell phones. As a general rule, it is best not to downgrade your firmware version as this can cause problems.
