Common Usages Of High Voltage Contactor

By William McDonald

Electrical components carry current that needs to be controlled regularly. For this reason, there ought to be components connected to devices transmitting electricity. Markedly, a high voltage contactor is used to regulate current by allowing devices to be switched on and off. Various devices that must have fuses are explained in the paragraphs below.

Before understanding where connectors are placed, it is important to know various components are making it up. First, there is a coil. These are necessary for energizing valves to turn contacts on or off. Another component is the pole. This part carries current. Finally, there are auxiliary contacts. This controls as well as signals applications of circuits.

In huge buildings such as business premises and office apartments, it is common for a large amount of electric power to be used up. In such cases, connectors are used in paneling lighting. This enables power to be controlled from one specific point. Additionally, those valves efficiently supply large currents to such buildings. Latching switches are preferred in big buildings since coils consume a lot of electric energy in those applications.

Next, contacts are used in vacuum switches. Such is designed to use vacuity bottles condensed valves for arc suppression. Suppression of arcs reduces contact size hence consume less space during excess currents. Encapsulation allows similar valves to be used in dirty environments like mining. Similarly, they may be used in numerous applications with medium currents of about 1000 to 5000 volts since they can efficiently displace circuit breakers filled with oil. These type of switches can only be used with alternating current. Therefore vacuum connectors can effectively be used to disrupt electric arc power as well as where quick lighting is necessary.

Thirdly, connectors are a common element of mercury relays. Mercury transmitters utilize liquid mercury in transmitting electric current. They are unique since mercury is stored in a properly sealed bottled with insulated inner surfaces. Insulation makes such contacts suitable for cycling surfaces which are prone to corrosion. These transmitters are however being discouraged because mercury is known to be environmentally hazardous.

A different version of mercury transmitters is mercury wetted relays. These minimize the amount of liquefied mercury infuses. Unlike in mercury relays, valves are coated with a little mercury before use. For this reason, they cannot relay greater capacities compared to other connectors. As a matter of fact, their carrying capacity is limited to 15 amps and below.

Another usage is in camshafts also known as transformers. Camshafts are special transmitters that utilize numerous circuits aligned sequentially. Electric magnets would be best, but they cannot be used individually. Switch efficiency in transformers is more improved since electric current may be powered by electric motors or gas cylinders. Initially, camshafts were widely used to speed up electric locomotives.

These components are used in magnetic starters. These are devices for energizing electricity driven motors to move. Valves are important in such devices since they not only limit the amount of power passing through but also protect the circuit from overloading. In case of power outage, they offer automatic cut-off.
